"Solitude" tells a story. A story that has often served as inspiration in many art genres (in literature, music and painting). It is a story of the fantastic mermaid Undine, who exists in different forms in numerous mythologies. As with other demigods and fabulous creatures, she only gets a soul after marrying a human. But the love affair usually ends unhappily. Rafael Baier has composed a concept album from this with numerous magical moments. His band – the members of which are all proven and enthusiastic tinkers with sound as he is – create a world of sounds from this as you can only rarely hear. The group has consciously avoided any categorization and instead borrows from all genres. The motto was that everything is used that is suitable for telling the story with tones. The surprising thing is that no hodgepodge results despite the mixture of stylistic elements from pop, avant-garde, jazz, dancefloor, etc., but instead a kind of "total art work". The charismatic, expressive voice of the Estonian singer Ingrid Lukas has a substantial share in this. She is a stroke of luck for what is anyway a harmonious album. Her voice is so to say the crowning feature of the work. In the middle of her 20s, she studied jazz and pop singing and has been able to gain experience in several bands and at Zurich Theaterhaus. The workaholic Rafael Baier (studies at Berklee under George Garzone and Jerry Bergonzi, theater music composer, studio sound designer and band projects) has filled the band Metamorphosis with experts: Piano-high-flier Chris Gall (ACT), who also studied at Berklee. Claudio Strebel, bassist with classical and jazz schooling, played both in the "Young Philharmonic" as well as in the punk rock group "Lebenswert". Drummer and Berklee graduate Jürg Mikula can show a similar range of activities in music. Additionally, there is the DJ and sound magician Christoph Keller, and an "elder statesman" with Willy Kotoun, who studied in Cuba and the USA, has lived in Switzerland for many years and is considered the most versatile percussionist there. And when necessary, guests such as the David Sonton String Trio and the trombonist Andreas Tschopp play on a few tracks. As an extra, there is also an Electronic/Lounge Club Mix. This is how jazz can sound in the 21st century!
