Seven Davis Jr. - Stranger Than Fiction (2024)

The title "Stranger Than Fiction", was inspired by all the things one see's and learns when they are part of different communities. Who the real good guys are, who the real villains are, who's really problematic, who's just misunderstood, who only wants to be famous and who does it from a place of genuine love etc etc. You'd be surprised what you find out.

But more important, I wanted to make a tribute album reflecting all the music that has played a huge role in forming who I am as an artist and as a person. Each track showcasing a different audio aesthetic but connecting to the next like scenes in a film, creating my own world.

Something loosely inspired by the atmospheres of my favorite albums Voodoo by D’Angelo, St Elsewhere by Gnarls Barkley, Dummy by Portishead, Breath From Another by Esthero, and The Love Below by Andre 3000, to name a few. All blended together with my love for Indie Electronic Music, done in my own authentic ways.

Often in life I have been told that I am too R&B for Hip Hop, too Hip Hop for R&B, too R&B Hip Hop for House and too House Music for Techno. But the truth is I'm a creation of those worlds put together. This album is me leaning into that.

This project is for others like me who fit into multiple categories and none at the same time. While bringing it back to an old school-ish energy, simply about humble songs, good vibes and fun beats.
