Tunes from the Lynx Valley
Johanna-Adele Jüssi Trio releases album, Slåtter fra Gaupdalen IV (Tunes from the Lynx Valley) on 15.3.2024. The trio brings to life the fascinating imaginary world in which they have composed the songs on the album.

Johanna-Adele Jüssi, originally from Estonia, has lived and studied in Germany, Shetland, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and Norway – the latter of which has been her home for the last 9 years. Along the way she has been inspired by the places she has traveled to and the people she has met. Different traditions and various musical idioms have become part of her as a musician and given shape to the way she expresses herself. Together with her trio she plays old and new tunes from the Lynx Valley - a utopian place found in a dream.

"Once, in a dream, a friend told me about her fantastic home area, Lynx Valley. Immediately, I fell in love with the place and felt a strong sense of belonging. I had suddenly found the place where I wanted to live, where my musical wanderings could rest and develop further. When I woke up, I couldn't remember what the valley looked like or where it was, but I remained completely infatuated with it." told Jüssi about the start of the imaginary idea.

“I feel that the message “It is free to dream!” gives hope which we so desperately need in the world today. The naive idealism behind the Lynx Valley is hopefully a refreshing reminder that it is indeed, up to us, how much we dare to free ourselves from the conventional mindset that might hold us down.”, Jüssi continues.

The trio's new collection features nimble compositions, showcasing Jüssi's unique voice influenced by Norwegian and Estonian folk, jazz, and electronics. Lynx Valley's joyful essence permeates her music. On tour, Jüssi extends the concept by distributing local newspapers and seed packets, encouraging audiences to grow their own carrots from this mythical region. While Lynx Valley is fictional, the warmth and honesty in Jüssi's music create a welcoming space for all.
