It took more than a decade for Valérie Crête to follow up on her very first album. With “Myself”, she realizes a dream, that of presenting an album of her own compositions only in English.
“This project is me from A to Z. I created it in my own way, in my own color and I tackle what I wanted to talk about. I tell my life story there. There are songs about great loves, broken hearts and domestic violence. Yes, I experienced many things that inspired me to write a lot of songs. »
In the creation of her second album, the singer-songwriter says she opened her heart 100%, while being surrounded by a “terrific” team. “They are extraordinary people, both François Longpré who has been with me for 22 years now, and Marie-Ève Breton, who works hard behind the stage. It’s also my great gang of musicians, Julien Thibault, David Bérubé and Audrey Cloutier, who bring this project to another level. And without forgetting Marcus Quirion, without whom I could not hold this album in my hands. He welcomed me into my insecurities. He reassured me. And he understood exactly what I wanted. He aligned himself with my soul, my heart. He always hit the nail on the head. »
“Myself” has “new country” sounds. Valérie Crête was inspired by artists such as Shania Twain and Chris Stapleton. “These are people who join me and who, like me, always see the positive side in everything, even if, sometimes, it is painful. It's all a question of perception. It is possible to get through it, to move forward and see beauty through all the challenges,” she says.
