Brief Encounters will be released on 10 September on the Meridian label with violist Peter Mallinson and pianist Lynn Arnold. The music contained on this double album will explore pieces of music which, in different ways, confront or embody a notion of brevity. The collection includes a rich variety of lesser-known gems, mostly from the 20th century, many by British composers such as Ruth Gipps, Dorothy Howell and Rebecca Clarke. Each piece provides a glimpse of a composer unknown or otherwise unfamiliar. Some are original works for viola and piano, others are transcriptions and arrangements, aiming to bring to a wider audience composers or compositions long overlooked, or now forgotten. There are several world premiere recordings.
