Rising Experimental Sax Player Ayumi Ishito Brings Her Quintet to 577 Records, Releasing First Album with the Label

If you haven’t yet experienced the Ayumi Ishito quintet, allow them to take you on a melodic journey that sets your mind, body, and soul in motion. 577 Records is ecstatic to release Wondercult Club, the group’s first album with the label! It follows Ishito's numerous recent collaborations with maestro Daniel Carter, the philosopher behind 577 Recs and its community. Recorded last year at The Bunker Studio in Brooklyn, the collection features eight mellifluous tracks.
At 19 years old, Japanese-born Ayumi Ishito picked up the tenor sax and never put it down. The Berklee College of Music graduate (who now lives in NYC) has headed up the quintet as its composer since 2011. With mesmerizing grace, she leads the way through the ever-evolving playground that is experimental, instrumental rock inspired by jazz, fusion, prog, indie rock, and more. Accompanying her sax and synth magic are Hajime Yoshida and Yana Davydova on guitars, Yoshiki Yamada on bass, and Carter Bales on drums.
Blending their expansive talents, the band’s latest album presents playful moments of free improv, noise, and soundscape that flow from their instruments with sensational results. Ayumi Ishito is a relatively new member of the 577 Records community, and her group embodies its essence perfectly with its smooth ingenuity and impressive ability to set a mood that’s hard to shake.
