Publicity Department can sit back relaxed, because their new album Old Master will sell itself, regardless of its promo budget. Although I should probably refrain from using “their,” since Publicity Department started out as a solo project, then became a full band for album #2, only to return as a one-man show for the new album. That man is Sean Brook (also of Brunch) who, after moving to a new house, discovered a shed in his garden which he turned into a makeshift studio where he recorded the new batch of songs. Well, if Brook ever gets invited to MTV Cribs, he can state that “this is where the magic happens” without a sense of irony.
Old Master balances between alt rock, slacker pop, and a touch of americana, and has hints of Malkmus and Berman but mostly just Brook. Expect laid-back tunes that are guitar driven, likeable from the get-go and invite further playing—no duds here! Tape available now at Safe Suburban Home.
