Tujiko Noriko - Echoes on the Hem (2025) [Hi-Res]

Tujiko Noriko lands on Longform Editions with her most horizontal composition to date, layering reverberating electric piano improvisations and synths with possessed AI poetry.

You never quite know what you're gonna get with Tujiko Noriko, and 'Echoes on the Hem' is particularly unexpected. A few days off gave the France-based filmmaker and musician some rare free time, so she channeled her energy into music, drawing from an unlikely source. She's always been into rap, and searched for an AI model that could rap her lyrics, but it didn't quite work, turning into more of a monologue during the process. And it's these odd, robotic words that serve as the piece's fulcrum.

Around the poem, Noriko creates a slow-moving soundscape from unbalanced, warmly meandering electric piano cycles; the core melody doesn't really change, it floats in thin air, sporadically accompanied by gassy pads, sparse woodwind gusts and the rhythmic android recitations. Effortlessly lovely, it's one to play as you drift away into a deep sleep.
