Many local dialects are spoken in Italy, as the late unification of the territory contributed to their persistence. These dialects are seen in Italy as a cultural heritage to be preserved, and many of them, such as Neapolitan, are still spoken by millions of people.

In the 28 nursery rhymes, lullabies, and fingerplay songs in this grand musical book, we have chosen to highlight the dialects of southern Italy: Neapolitan, Calabrian, Sicilian, Sardinian, Arbëresh... As always in the *Comptines du monde* collection, Jean-Christophe Hoarau’s meticulous and heartfelt musical production enhances the diversity of voices and showcases the country’s traditional instruments.
