Nicholas Konradsen - The Last King of Lindesey (2025)

Nicholas Konradsen, known for his work with the hurdy-gurdy and bagpipes, shifts focus to the Anglo-Saxon lyre on his new album The Last King of Lindesey. Inspired by early medieval Lincolnshire, the album was recorded at his home using two historically reconstructed lyres. Most tracks evolved from improvisations and have a cinematic, ancient sound. Highlights include The Island in the Pool, Witham, and the title track. The album also features two medieval pieces, Da Que Deus and Mirie It Is. Despite occasional use of other instruments, the lyre remains central, offering a warm, intimate, and evocative listening experience.
