It’s easy to picture Sean Schuster-Craig buried at home under piles of instruments, computers, and vinyl records of all kinds… A geeky image that perfectly fits the album by the man known as Jib Kidder, marking his debut release on the Domino label. One must simply surrender to his playful collages of pop, rock, electronic, and psychedelic sounds, and to the charmingly crafted melodies of Teaspoon To The Ocean—a UFO of an album that owes as much to Animal Collective as it does to Todd Rundgren, Elliott Smith, Beck, or the Beach Boys (more Dennis than Brian Wilson, in fact).

Born in Louisville, raised in Georgia, a student in Michigan, and now bouncing between California and New York, Jib Kidder is a fascinating one-man band. He conceived this record as a children’s tale, where the characters encountered feel both familiar and strangely disorienting. Even the elusive fairy Julia Holter makes an appearance, lending her ethereal vocals.

A must-listen discovery.
