Born in Moscow in 1914, Kirill Kondrashin was one of the first prominent Russian conductors to perform and guest conduct around the world. This recording is the document of his outstanding work with the Concertgebouw Amsterdam Orchestra. Wherever he worked, Kondrashin transformed the musicians under his direction into a versatile powerhouse of lush string and lush brass sounds.

This recording of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade" is rightly considered one of the most exciting recordings of the work ever made. Highly recommended!
