Wolfgang Perez - Só Ouço (2025) [Hi-Res]

Só Ouço is a dazzling new album from German-Spanish songwriter, arranger, and guitarist Wolfgang Pérez, blending experimental pop with deep influences from Música Popular Brasileira. Written and recorded during an 18-month creative residency in Rio de Janeiro, the album channels the energy, contradictions, and rhythms of modern Brazil.

Pérez arrived in Rio in 2022 to study composition, but soon found himself immersed in the city’s musical landscape. Inspired by encounters with local artists like Thiago Nassif and Ana Frango Elétrico, he formed a band with Luis Magalhães (bass), Pedro Fonte (drums), and Paulo Emmery (guitar). A fateful show at Audio Rebel led to a studio residency with engineer Angelo Wolf (Bala Desejo, Marcos Valle), who became a key collaborator. Contributions from lyricist/singer Carol Maia and musician/arranger Antonio Neves further enriched the sound.

Só Ouço is meticulous yet spontaneous, playful yet poignant. It merges classic songwriting with sharp modern production, creating a sound that is both comforting and challenging — a celebration of complexity and contradiction. Fans of Tom Zé, Gilberto Gil, Negro Leo, and João Gilberto will find much to love.
