"Whitby" is a mini-album by David Boulter, best known as a member of Tindersticks, inspired by the stark beauty and unsettling calm of England’s North Yorkshire coast. The music captures impressions from a 2024 visit to Whitby, evoking deserted beaches, the ruins of the abbey, and the old Cinder Track railway line. The album’s organic sound sees Boulter forgoing direct field recordings, instead reinterpreting the coastal atmosphere through instrumentation, including violin, viola, and other instruments. It is a quiet yet powerful musical meditation on nature, history, and the delicate balance between humanity and the environment.
