Cocoa Thrill - Subtropical (2025)

Hailing from Apulia, Italy, the southern part of Europe, Cocoa Thrill is a band that blends cumbia, afro-funk, and tropical grooves with hints of dub psychedelia and jazz. Their debut album is titled "Subtropical". The name of the album highlights the connection between Southern Italy and the cultures of South America and Africa, stemming from a shared history of Mediterranean relationships and Spanish rule.

For example, their song "La Moneda" features the voice of Salvador Allende speaking to the United Nations. Another track includes a sample from an interview with Diego Armando Maradona, where he discusses the derogatory term "Sudaca," used against South Americans in Spain.
