The album 'La Traversée' by NA GRM R&D scientist and modular musician Matthias Puech, released on Hallow Ground, is his second work for the label and is inspired by the epic poem 'The Odyssey'. Impressed by the scope, layered themes, and emotional beats of the Greek epic, Puech aimed to embed a similar level of drama into four synthesiser compositions, attempting to mimic the narrative's rhythms and repetitions with his delicate Eurorack compositions. The album possesses a sense of theater that sets it apart from his previous 2023 release, 'Mt. Hadamard National Park'. The first side of the album establishes the main themes: the track 'Ennosignaios' juxtaposes cinematic drones with animalistic sounds and irregular percussion, while 'Polyphármakos' creates memorable rhythmic patterns within a vast, mirrored-cavern-like space. The album concludes with 'Ithákê', which resolves these elements into a slab of pure percussive sound that dissolves into microsound.
