Peter Knight - For a Moment the Sky Knew My Name (2025) [Hi-Res]

Musician Peter Knight describes how the ideas for his new album coalesced during the summer of 2024/25 while camping with his family on Krowathunkooloong land in southeastern Australia, a place from his childhood. The music is inspired by natural elements: water, wind, the sound of insects, the soughing of plants, the dull roll of the surf, and the rhythm of his walking. Imagery from the location includes fire-blackened dead banksias, the red-brown river water of the Yeerung stained by Melaleuca, and the contrast between the river's deep red pool and the gun-metal blue ocean. This location, where he swims daily, prompts Knight to question belonging, memory, and the body's relationship with nature. He notes that sound acts as a "porous membrane" connecting the present to the past. Knight recounts walking with his trumpet in his backpack on the hill behind the Yeerung, trying to find a space where his sounds can resonate with the environment against the intensifying heat and pulsing of the crickets.
