The band Sea Level was formed in 1976 by three former members of The Allman Brothers Band—Chuck Leavell (keyboards, vocals), Lamar Williams (bass, vocals), and Jaimoe (drums)—who were joined by Jimmy Nalls (guitar, vocals). The band's name is a pun derived from the pronunciation of Leavell's surname. Following the release of their 1977 debut album Sea Level, the group embarked on a promotional tour across the US. During this tour, their concert in Passaic, New Jersey, on February 11, 1977, was recorded and broadcast as part of the popular radio show King Biscuit Flower Hour. This recording forms the basis of the live album, which fully captures the performance, including songs by The Allman Brothers Band. Sea Level's music retained elements of Southern Rock inherited from the Allmans, but showcased a more sophisticated rock sound with strong influences of Jazz/Fusion and Funk. This release was highly anticipated by fans, as the group had not previously issued an official live album.
