Natasha Pirard - Fernande, Cecile (2025) [Hi-Res]

Natasha Pirard's newest, deeply personal project, a song photobook titled Fernande, Cecile, is dedicated to her mother Cecile and her late grandmother Fernande. The album, which weaves together voice, field recordings, synthesizer, and violin, serves as an ode to her matrilineal line and explores themes of care, loss, and the fragility of memory, particularly in the context of Alzheimer's, her grandmother's illness. The warmth of her grandmother Fernande, whom Pirard lost at seven, and the constant guidance of her mother Cecile are key motifs. The album was sparked by a poignant conversation with her mother about keeping her "inside" presence alive even if the disease should strike. Pirard's compositions translate her gratitude and love into a tender and fragmented musical form, evoking images of childhood, gardens, and sunlight. The musical rhythms reflect the shifts of life, blending ambient textures with her voice and instruments, occasionally featuring her grandmother's favorite bird. The album is structured in two parts: Fernande, capturing the grandmother and her fading recollections, and Cecile, honoring the mother's resilience and care. The work was written and recorded by Natasha Pirard and was produced and mixed by David & Stephen Dewaele of Soulwax/2manydjs at Deewee.
