Patrick Sky began his musical career in 1965 as a standard Greenwich Village folk singer, emulating early Bob Dylan. By 1971, however, he recorded Songs That Made America Famous, an album featuring fourteen tracks of harsh and brutal satire directed at Nixon-era American society. Due to the provocative song titles and direct confrontation with societal norms, major record labels, including Vanguard, refused to release the material. The record was eventually released years later on the independent label Adelphi, featuring artwork that parodied the Apple Records logo. The album is regarded as a masterpiece of political incorrectness that has retained its relevance and bite decades after its recording.
