Kim Carnie - A' Chailleach (2025)

A' Chailleach is the second studio album by Scottish Gaelic singer Kim Carnie, serving as a concept record deeply rooted in female folklore and mysticism. The title refers to the Cailleach (the Divine Hag), the creator and storm bringer in Gaelic mythology. Carnie explores themes rarely touched upon in the tradition: love charms, incantations, personifications of death, and ancient rituals, aiming to bring these texts to life within a new sound world.

The recording features an impressive lineup of guest musicians, including kora player Seckou Keita, dobro legend Jerry Douglas, and singer Julie Fowlis. The release's visual component is also conceptual: each track is paired with a specially created Tarot card. Musically, the album blends cinematic contemporary arrangements with traditional Gaelic singing.
