Angus MacRae - Warren Suite (2026)

Angus MacRae’s latest release, *Warren Suite*, is a hypnotic and hauntingly beautiful reimagining of music originally composed for Bernard Shaw’s stage play, 'Mrs Warren’s Profession', which was performed at London’s Noel Cowards Theatre in the spring of 2025.

The album unfolds as a series of dreamlike vignettes led by an intimate quartet of female voices, underpinned by piano, harp, strings, and electronics. By turns minimalist and maximalist, the music draws from early-20th-century folk and classical traditions, reframing them in an enveloping, contemporary sound world.

“This is an album of improvisation and experimentation. It should be treated as a parallel world to the play - connected but distinct,” says MacRae. “I wanted to keep pulling the thread of the original score and see where it led, and it took me deep into unexpected territory. At the heart of the record are the wordless voices, which serve as ghostly apparitions of the women at the centre of Shaw’s story. I wanted to keep magnifying their presence, amplifying their story independently of the writing.”
