Thomas Markusson - In the Space Between (2026) [Hi-Res]

"In the Space Between" (2026) is a major collaboration featuring three prominent figures of the Scandinavian improvised music scene. Swedish bassist Thomas Markusson joins forces with Norwegian masters — trumpeter Arve Henriksen and percussionist Helge Andreas Norbakken — to create a soundscape at the intersection of chamber jazz, ambient, and Nordic folklore. The album's title reflects its core philosophy: the emphasis is placed not only on the sounds themselves but also on the pauses, silence, and the space in between. Henriksen’s breathy, shakuhachi-like trumpet tone is complemented by Norbakken’s textural percussion and Markusson’s deep, resonant double bass. The guest appearance of Thomas Feiner brings elements of melancholic art-pop to certain tracks, while Mia Marine’s fiddle adds traditional Swedish motifs. This work explores the passage of time, the fragility of existence, and the profound beauty of minimalism.
