Los Norte Americanos was a 1960s studio ensemble consisting of musicians from the famed 101 Strings Orchestra. Despite their name, they were not an actual Tijuana band, but a commercial project of the Alshire International (formerly Somerset) label, created to capitalize on the immense popularity of the "Ameriachi" sound popularized by Herb Alpert and his Tijuana Brass.
Their most famous record series was The Band I Heard in Tijuana (released in several volumes from 1965 to 1967).
The group was based in Los Angeles and recorded under the direction of David L. Miller.
Although Los Norte Americanos are often referred to as "Tijuannabees" (imitators of Tijuana Brass), vinyl collectors still value their recordings for the high-quality arrangements and clear stereo sound characteristic of the Alshire label.
