Dark Winds: Seasons 1–4 is the first official soundtrack album for AMC's neo-noir crime series Dark Winds, released digitally on April 3, 2026, via Lakeshore Records. The series was created by Graham Roland, based on Tony Hillerman's Leaphorn & Chee novels, and is set in the 1970s on the Navajo reservation. It stars Zahn McClarnon, Kiowa Gordon, Jessica Matten, and Deanna Allison, with George R. R. Martin and the late Robert Redford serving as executive producers.
The score across all four seasons was composed by the family trio of Kevin Kiner and his children Sean and Deana Kiner. Kevin is a multiple BMI Award winner and Annie Award recipient, best known for his extensive work within the animated Star Wars universe (The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Bad Batch, Ahsoka), as well as Hell on Wheels, Narcos: Mexico, Peacemaker, and CSI: Miami. Sean and Deana (composing duo Kiner Music, formerly Kiner Brothers) have concurrently worked on The Bad Batch, Ahsoka, Trese, and other projects. The three share a connected studio space, enabling both independent work and close collaboration.
The Dark Winds score blends intimate, soulful guitar melodies with tense orchestral writing, reflecting the atmosphere of the desert Southwest, the mysticism of Navajo culture, and the noir-inflected detective narrative. Each season adapts a different Hillerman novel: Season 1 draws on Listening Woman, Season 2 on People of Darkness, Season 3 on Dance Hall of the Dead and The Sinister Pig, and Season 4 on The Ghostway. The fourth season, which premiered on February 15, 2026, shifts part of the action to 1970s Los Angeles and introduces a new antagonist played by Franka Potente. The series holds a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes across all four seasons and has already been renewed for a fifth season in 2027. In 2023, the Kiner family received the BMI Cable Television Award for their work on the show.
