French easy listening legend Paul Mauriat took a distinctive electronic turn with his 1980 album Chromatic, a collection of 11 original compositions rather than his usual pop interpretations. Released on the Philips label and arranged by Mauriat alongside Gérard Gambus, the album was recorded at Studio des Dames in Paris and features tracks including "Romantic Laser," "Ballade Orange," "Piccolo Paradise," "Blue Sticks For A Rainbow," and the brief title track "Chromatic Dream". What sets this work apart is its elaborate use of electronic instruments, primarily keyboards, creating a sound that leaned heavily into the synthesized textures emerging at the turn of the decade.
