The album Sung by the duo of trumpeter Kris Tiner and pianist Cathlene Pineda, released on Orenda Records, culminates more than 15 years of their artistic and personal partnership. Recorded in a single session in July 2025, the record blends classical music influences with jazz traditions. The first side consists of early pieces dedicated to mentors and close friends, including a reinterpretation of Charlie Haden. The second side is deeply personal, inspired by the tragic events of January 2025, when Pineda's family lost their home to fires and was forced to move between hotels. The music reflects themes of displacement, uncertainty, and local community solidarity. Both performers are prominent figures on the American jazz scene and directors of academic jazz programs in California.
