Red Dwarf Star's debut album LP1 is a deeply personal project from guitarist Coley Dennis, best known for his work with the krautrock-influenced instrumental band Maserati. Recorded following his 2015 move from the United States to Switzerland, the album reflects on a decade of profound change family, career, and the quiet upheavals of a new life channeling feelings of loss, uncertainty, and introspection. Sonically, Dennis eschews his previous band's motorik rhythms in favor of a rawer, more immediate sound rooted in the 1990s alternative, post-hardcore, and dream-pop that had lingered in his creative subconscious for years. The recording process was largely a DIY affair, prioritizing feeling over finesse, though the album is elevated by contributions from drummer Kellii Scott (Failure) and vocal textures from Allen Epley (Shiner) and Jenna Fournier.
