SACHA DISTEL - Music Legends Sacha Distel: The French Crooner (2026)

On September 25, 2026, Wagram Music released the digital compilation Music Legends, highlighting the two sides of Sacha Distel’s career: the jazz guitarist of the 1950s and the popular variété singer. The collection includes the complete recordings from the Afternoon in Paris sessions, along with a selection of his best-known vocal hits from around the turn of the 1960s. This retrospective covers the transitional period in which the artist moved on from performing with jazz legends such as the Modern Jazz Quartet and achieved widespread fame in the chanson genre. The jazz portion of Music Legends focuses on the 1956 sessions with Barney Wilen and members of the MJQ—a project that was initially praised by critics, including Leonard Feather. The second half features Distel’s successful vocal recordings, including his breakthrough chart-topping hit, Scoubidou, and French adaptations of American standards. Documenting both his virtuoso guitar playing and his influence as a songwriter, this release offers a comprehensive look at the French performer’s artistic evolution.
