Retrophonic (2009) is the uncompromising return of legendary "fuzz king" Davy Allen to the roots of the acid surf and biker garage rock genres he invented. Having risen to fame in the mid-1960s thanks to iconic soundtracks for Roger Corman films (The Wild Angels, Devil's Angels), Allen proves on Retrophonic that his signature sound has lost none of its aggression and relevance. The album serves as a raw, loud, and driving manifesto of analog guitar sound, where classic 1960s California surf rock meets psychedelic fuzz and proto-punk energy.
