Edsel launched an impressive overhaul of the Pretenders' catalog in 2015, adding bonus tracks to each album -- sometimes it amounted to a full CD of extra material -- along with a DVD containing promo clips and BBC television appearances. It goes considerably further than Rhino's revision of the catalog, which stopped after Get Close but also included a 2006 box called Pirate Radio, a rarities-heavy set that sees some (but not all) of its material surfacing here. Basically, what 1979-1999 offers is a very simple, easy way to get all of the expanded versions of the Pretenders' Sire albums in one fell swoop. Apart from Packed!, which is a little skimpy with just two bonus cuts, each of the albums is generously expanded in this vault-clearing expedition.
