cruush - Wishful Thinker EP (2023) Hi-Res

Manchester’s Cruush have been a round for a couple of years now, although Stick In The Mud is the first material I have heard from them. It’s female fronted shoegaze erring on the noisier alt-rock side of things. This is the obligatory stompy jam on the EP. A drum beat that until we added the delay had a touch too much of classic rock about it, more than a whiff of leather trousers and hairspray if you will.

The music came out of the idea of using no chords for the main sections, instead going for two separate riffs that dance through different frequencies together. Lyrically it’s about expiring friendships, no one talks about the breakdowns or friendships, but they can be just as upsetting as relationships.

“The soundtrack to the destructive grind of the hospitality machine. The music is akin to tumbling down a flight of stairs and landing in a heap at the bottom, shaking yourself off before going straight down the next flight; reflecting exactly what I was putting myself and people I care about through at the time.”
