Ray Charles - Love Songs (1999)

Ray Charles has sung thousands of songs and many of them were love songs. For the compilers of Rhino's Love Songs, the ones that mattered are classics. Yes, there are a couple of unexpected inclusions that are thrilling, such as Leon Russell's "A Song for You," but for the most part it's standards like "I Can't Stop Loving You," "Come Rain or Come Shine," "Baby It's Cold Outside," "Georgia on My Mind," "You Are My Sunshine," "How Deep Is the Ocean," and "Till There Was You." True, there aren't too many big hits here, but that's all right, since every performance is superb. Since it spans so many years, the collection feels a little disjointed in places, but it will still satisfy fans looking for a strong collection of some of Charles' finest love songs.~Stephen Thomas Erlewine
