Fidju Kitxora - Racodja (2024) [Hi-Res]

Operating between Lisbon and Cape Verde, Fidju Kitxora (which translates as “crying son” in Kriolu) takes an evolutionary leap towards a crossover collage that throws funaná, sensual Angolan semba, field recordings, vocal samples, synth parts, and Afro-house accents into the mix. Following the release of their volcanic debut Racodja in 2024, the collective have been transferring some of this fireball energy into their live shows, which are liberating dance parties of the highest order—trust me. Racodja is by no means a straightforward funaná album (although the welcome jolt of accordion from Scúru Fitchadú on “Lobu na Sukuru” takes it there), but it’s representative of the ever-evolving continuum of the dance and music style, embodying the continuous transformation, resilience, and allure of funaná. Echoing the legacy of funaná forebears, Fidju Kitxora share a commitment to excavating the diaspora experience, describing themselves as a collective who “searches for lost voices in the diaspora, and collect memories of those who never returned.”
