Truck - Surprise! Surprise! (1974)

The October Cherries from Singapore stand out as one of the unjustly overlooked yet brilliant bands from the late 1960s. Throughout their career, they underwent multiple reinventions, performing as Truck, Col. Truck, and Jade & Pepper, leaving behind a legacy of dazzling Beatlesque pop-psych. Their 1974 album "Surprise! Surprise!", released as Truck, rearranged tracks from the earlier Cherries album "Dreamseller". The album's sound is a fusion of 60s British psych and early 70s production, characterized by melodic Beatles/Badfinger-influenced English vocals, catchy songs, lush arrangements, and the use of fuzz, wah-wah, electric piano, and analog synth/Moog, giving it a unique vibe. Among the tracks is "Earth Song," which the late Trish Keenan of Broadcast included in her celebrated Motorway Mix. "Surprise! Surprise!" was one of the earliest Guerssen reissues in 2004 and is now presented in a new, updated edition after being out of print for many years.
