Fuzzy Lights - Fen Creatures (2025) [Hi-Res]

Fuzzy Lights have released their fifth album, Fen Creatures, a conceptual work that explores the environmental crisis through the folklore and history of East Anglia. The album, which builds upon their previous work Burials (2021), creates a temporal tapestry that unites ancient fears and modern concerns, ranging from Iron Age hill forts and medieval plague houses to contemporary rising sea levels. Musically, the quintet (Rachel Watkins, Xavier Watkins, Chris Rogers, Daniel Carney, and Mark Blay) expands their psych-folk sound by incorporating elements of experimental drone. The themes of the songs include a reinterpretation of the water spirit myth of Jenny Greenteeth in the track "Greenteeth," and connecting historical losses, such as the 1665 plague ("The Promise"), with modern pandemics. Fuzzy Lights are recognized for pushing the boundaries of folk music, following the path of artists like Fairport Convention and Comus, who utilized tradition as guidance for living, rather than simply as an object of nostalgia.
