Frank Fafara, one of the compilation's key contributors, embodies the archetype of the Phoenix teen idol: within two years of his first impromptu high school show, he was recording for MCI Records with session ace Al Casey and sharing stages with The Everly Brothers, Conway Twitty, Del Shannon, and Brenda Lee. Patti LaSalle, also featured, cut her 1960 MCI Records single in the same regional scene. All the artists on the compilation — Nick Landers, Denny Reed, Ritchie Hart, Ray Donnell, Bobby & The Demons — represent the same stratum of forgotten regional pop: tightly crafted 45-rpm pop ballads and early rock 'n' roll confections that capture the optimistic, unaffected spirit of early 1960s teenage America.
