"The Oxford Girl and Other Stories" (2008) is a special release in the discography of the renowned British folk rock band Oysterband.
The album was released in November 2008 on Running Man Records and celebrated the band's 30th anniversary.
This is an entirely acoustic studio project, for which the musicians selected 14 significant songs from different periods of their 30-year career and completely reimagined them. The band removed the usual heavy electric guitars and dense drums and returned to their roots—the "acoustic heartbeat." The songs are recorded in a simple and transparent manner, emphasizing the voices, complex vocal harmonies, and exclusively acoustic instruments.
The musicians themselves described this release as an "autobiography in songs" and emphasized that this is not just nostalgia, but an attempt to say something completely new about old tracks from the vantage point of the years they have lived.
