Penetration – Don't Dictate - The Best Of Penetration (1995)

Don't Dictate - The Best Of Penetration (1995) is the first official retrospective compilation of the first-wave British punk band Penetration, released by Virgin Records.

Fronted by charismatic vocalist Pauline Murray, Penetration formed in 1976 in County Durham and became one of the first prominent punk bands to emerge from Northern England. Unlike many of their aggressive and nihilistic contemporaries of 1977, Penetration stood out for their more melodic, expressive sound and profound lyrics, paving the way from classic punk rock to post-punk and new wave.

The compilation takes its title from their iconic 1977 debut single, "Don't Dictate," an uncompromising anthem of individuality and independence.

The collection covers the entire main and most productive period of the band’s existence (1977–1979) until their first breakup.
