Save For A Rainy Day is a concept studio album by the American pop duo Jan & Dean (Jan Berry and Dean Torrence), recorded in early 1966. It is one of the first thematic concept albums in pop music history: all the songs on the album are devoted to the theme of rain, sadness, and inclement weather, with sound effects of rain and thunderstorms used between tracks.
The album has a tragic history. Recording was nearly complete in April 1966 when Jan Berry was in a horrific car accident, barely surviving and suffering severe injuries. Because of this and subsequent legal disputes with Liberty Records, the release was delayed, and the album itself long remained a "lost classic" (Dean Torrence only pressed a small private pressing on his label, J&D Record Co., in 1966).
